Why Become a First Aid Instructor?
When did you first learn first aid and why?
I first took part in a First Aid course at college as I was intending to go to university to study Paramedic Science.
What made you choose to become a first aid instructor?
I found my son at the bottom of his cot blue and not breathing. Fortunately I knew exactly what to do as my current day job requires me to have paediatric training. I had a shocking thought "how many other parents" if put in the same situation would know what to do. I decided that I would have to do something to bring this to light. I decided that I would train to become an instructor so that I would be able to offer affordable and accessible courses in Paediatric First Aid. However, as I am qualified to teach a number of different courses I am free to share my knowledge and understanding with as many people as possible.
Why did you choose Nuco Training?
I used to work for David Lloyd Leisure and I completed my first First Aid at Work 3 Day with Nuco Training. Knowing how well the quality of the training was and having an awareness of the brand is definately encouraging from the ofset. When I was researching into how to become a trainer and the costs associated I found that Nuco were very upfront with what they were offering. The customer service I recieved from small queries such as equipment purchasing and hire were fantastic and the quality of the information I recieved answered any questions I had.
What are your future training plans?
Currently as I say I am looking to spread the word of Basic Life Support Skills throughout Bolton with Parents and carers, working to increase the number of First Aiders in Nursery and school settings by making my course budget friendly. Providing the training is very much about my passion in both working with children and for First Aid in general. The next step for me is to complete the defibrillator Instructor course then to work towards adding Health and Safety onto my CV. I am not set at just providing First Aid now that I have the training bug.
What would you say to someone considering becoming a first aid instructor?
I am fairly new to training as a trainer, but there is so much satisfaction seeing the reactions of people when they understand and learn new skills. I have had such great feedback from parents and proffessionals alike who can see that I understand the subject and am able to share my knowledge. I have enjoyed every minute of what I have done and look forward to many more years of being a Nuco Trainer.
